Hairy Situations: What Is Co-Washing?

Tuesday, June 23, 2009

Watch the vid : (Hairy Sits.)

What is Co-washing ?

Co-washing is a way to clean the hair only instead using conditioner in place of shampoo.

How to Co-Wash?

Washing in the shower is easiest. Just like you would use your shampoo, use the conditioner instead. Apply conditioner (any cheapie conditioner will do), lather (1 or 2 times), rinse. Then apply a better quality type of conditioner and let it sit on your hair while you shower. When done showering, rinse hair thoroughly and get out the shower. Simple.

How often you co-wash is up to you. Some people co-wash 1-3 times a week and then shampoo wash once a week, bi-weekly, or even just once a month.

Pre-Poo

Saturday, June 6, 2009

I actually meant to do this follow-up to the vid that's up on the collab channel for the longest. (You know..some people would rather reeeeead it lol)

I pre-poo once a week before I wash my hair. ..(Yes I shampoo wash my hair once a week.) (Yes. I put shampoo wash. You'll see why in later days. Lol).. Pre-Poo is basically a deep conditioner...but in reverse. The only difference is I put more products in my hair than I do my deep-conditioner because the excess is going to get washed off anyway.

As you guys could see from the video...I put 4?...5? products in my pre-poo mixture. The 2 main products that I would recommend using is a conditioner (protein or moisturizing) and a cream moisturizer. (Do not rinse your hair before applying!) The point of a pre-poo is to moisturize dry, brittle hair inside the strand before the shampoo process...which of course strips the strand of its moisture on the outside. Its a great way to use up hot oils, protein conditioners, and old conditioners you havent used yet. It's also perfect for anyone who has taken out braids or a weave and their hair can't stand to go under water and soap right away. You can leave it on as long as you want. If you're in a hurry 30 minutes...if you're lazy like me, overnight. Lol

The whole pre-pooing process has helped to make my hair softer to the touch and more manageable. I don't have to moisturize on a daily basis and it's very easy to maintain my relaxer/new growth. (I'm actually thinking about "stretching" my relaxer this month...we'll see.) I've also been noticing less shedding, and my ends arent as brittle and prone to knotting up.

Disclosure : Don't...DON'T expect immediate results. In addition. If you haven't already, focus on a hair regimen that works for YOU. You can't expect to just do this routine and abuse your hair afterwards and expect great things...That's NOT going to happen.
